MA in Economics (MAE)
Eligible Criteria: The students having Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) degree with majoring economics from TU or any other universities recognised by TU are eligible to apply for M. A. Programme. However, the students with mathematics, statistics and management background may also apply. Students, willing to study MA in economics at Central Department of Economics (CEDECON) are required to submit application upon receiving a call to apply from the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Application form will be available from the Administration Section of the department on payment of specified fees. Students are required to get through entrance examination organised by Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, TU in beginning of December. Generally, academic session will start from January to October each year.
The MA in Economics programme is a two-year program consisting of five papers each year including one optional paper selected from among various optional papers offered. Each paper comprises 100 full marks and 40 percent pass marks. The M. A. degree in economics will be awarded to the students after successful completion of all ten papers in the annual examination conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examination, TU.
FEATURES
Central Department of Economics (CEDECON) has been awarding fellowship each year for top two students, one male and one female. CEDECON has also made provision for freeship for students. Of total students enrolment, twenty percent students are getting freeship each year which include partial waiver of tuition fee. NRB and TU Scholarship Students studying M. A. Economics are awarded scholarships by Nepal Rastra Bank and Tribhuvan University annually on the basis of merit. RESEARCH GRANTS/FELLOWSHIPS/MEDALS Fellowships Since 1990, two or more Research Grants are annually provided by the CEDECON to the faculty members on the relevant economic issues from Tara Pad Chaudhuri Research Trust contributed by late Emeritus Prof. Chaudhuri. Similarly, faculty members are also benefiting from the research grant from Achut Nath Research fellowship as well. Medals Tara Pad Chaudhuri medals are awarded to the students scoring highest marks in economics of B. A. and M. A. in the final examination of TU. Similarly, Khagendra Man Singh Pradhan. Gold Medal is awarded to the students securing highest marks in Master’s in economics. Short Term Student Exchange Programme Students securing top position, distinction or first class first will be provided an opportunity to pursue short term non degree course at various universities abroad as per the bilateral agreement between TU and the concerned universities. Recently, students have been getting this opportunity from Osaka Sangyo University and Saitama Universities, Japan.
