Master of Science in Microbiology (M SC MICROBIOLOGY)

Eligible Criteria: To be eligible for an M.Sc program at St. Xavier's College, generally, applicants need a Bachelor's degree (3 or 4 years) in the relevant field from a recognized university, with a minimum passing percentage (e.g., 50%). Students also need to pass an entrance examination conducted by Tribhuvan University (TU). Additionally, a strong academic record and successful performance in the entrance exam are required for admission.

Tribhuvan University's Master of Science in Microbiology (M. SC. Microbiology) is a two-year degree (T.U). This degree is divided into four semesters and is based on the semester system. This degree has been offered by St. Xavier's College since 2007 AD.

The current curriculum is meant to bring the M.Sc. microbiology degree from Tribhuvan University's Institute of Science and Technology up to worldwide standards, in accordance with contemporary microbiology advances. The new curriculum places a strong emphasis on research-based teaching and learning. According to national and worldwide demand, the current curriculum strives to develop qualified microbiologists, molecular biologists, researchers, and scientists. Master's degree recipients will be able to apply abilities learned in modern molecular biology techniques to basic scientific research or applied microbiology research. Microbiology is one of the most difficult science disciplines to master. Microbiology is more than just a single subject; it encompasses a variety of specializations, and graduates can work in a variety of fields ranging from pharmaceuticals to cosmetics. Biotechnology is another subject where graduates can make a substantial contribution. Those with an M.Sc. degree can teach and conduct research in medical, dental, and veterinary schools. Graduates can also work as test and experiment technicians in laboratories. They can also work as researchers studying the structure, function, ecology, biotechnology, and genetics of microorganisms, human, animal, and plant tissues, cells, and other biological systems. Students with this degree have a good possibility of going overseas after graduation because the demand for microbiologists is very high in the international market.
