EVENT DESCRIPTION
Malpi Debates 1.0 is a first edition interschool debate tournament hosted by the Malpi Debate Club in partnership with Tarkashala. The tournament is designed to create a competitive and inclusive debating atmosphere for high school students. The World Schools Debating Championship is an internationally recognized competition for high school debate, similar to the World Cup for football. Occurring annually, it challenges students to tackle motions on contemporary issues ranging from philosophy, law, international relations, economy, technology, ethics, and more. Unlike other forms of discussions, debating makes teams of young people learn to build and use fact-based arguments to support different positions on relevant issues. Those issues must be debatable, meaning that there is a balance of valid arguments on both sides of the issue. Further, participants do not necessarily get to represent the side they personally agree with - the sides are determined randomly.
